Context:

Decibel Made is a sustainable furniture and fabrication company offering both a curated catalog of designer pieces and custom large-scale 3D printing, all produced from recycled and bio-based materials.  When the company launched in 2024, it needed more than a product; it needed the infrastructure to sell it. I joined during this critical founding window and took ownership of building that infrastructure from the ground up, from material sourcing to marketing systems to trade show operations.

Role:

As Project Manager on a small team, my responsibilities extended well beyond a traditional PM scope. I owned the SKU system, catalog layouts, and line sheets end-to-end, and contributed to product selection and pricing. In parallel, I managed all shipping and logistics, produced sample kits for client outreach, supported sales and broader marketing efforts, and led the company's trade show operations, including its debut at ICFF 2024.

Constraints:

The core constraint was pace, as everything needed to be built while the company was already operating. The SKU system, catalog, and line sheets couldn't wait for the product line to stabilize; they had to evolve alongside it. Material sourcing added further complexity, since identifying reliable suppliers for recycled materials during a period of significant tariff volatility meant cost and availability were moving targets. Communicating Decibel's business model clearly was its own challenge. The company started operating across three distinct tracks, a curated catalog of designer pieces, U.S.-based fulfillment for global brands, and one-off custom commissions, and all of which needed to be presented coherently to clients without creating confusion.

Process:

My process was dictated by the company's needs at any given moment, which meant moving between operational and creative work fluidly. I began by working hands-on with the initial product range and available materials before building the SKU architecture to ensure the system was grounded in the realities of the product line rather than built in the abstract. Catalog layouts and line sheets followed, developed iteratively as the product line evolved. Material sourcing happened in the background throughout, continuously evaluating suppliers against quality, sustainability, and cost requirements. Trade show preparation ran on its own timeline, pulling every workstream together simultaneously into a single client-facing moment.

Results:

By the end of the founding period, Decibel Made had a functioning operational infrastructure, a polished market presence, and a client outreach program that attracted attention from luxury names including Louis Vuitton and Cartier. The systems built from scratch during this window (SKU architecture, catalog structure, sample kits, and logistics workflows) became the foundation the company continues to build on. Within less than a year of debuting at ICFF 2024, Decibel was showing at Milan Design Week, and has since grown into a globally recognized name in sustainable design, now collaborating with Karim Rashid, Justin Bieber, and Lululemon.
